The big reveal- Bathroom mini makeover

The big reveal- Bathroom mini makeover

When we bought our house almost 2 years ago the bathrooms were a sickly shade of green so we painted all the walls- now, I'll admit, this was not the shade of blue we were going for but it stayed for over a year before I got sick of it and decided the bathroom needed a makeover (plus I was hoping we could have redone the entire bathroom but I’ve now come to the conclusion this won’t be for a few years yet)

The very non-instaworthy before pictures

So I came up with a plan, bought some amazing banana leaf wallpaper from The Loft and Us which is a hand painted design by Rebecca who owns The Loft and Us. I chose it as I love the banana print wallpaper in the Beverly Hills hotel (if you haven’t seen it you should check it out its amazing!)

I have signed up to the Valspar paint club who kindly provided the paint for this project so off I headed to B&Q to get everything I needed. I colour matched the wallpaper to the vast choice from Valspar with the intention of painting the bath panel green- more on this later.

I used Valspar paint and primer in 1 to coat the walls and get rid of the dark blue. I coated the walls where I was going to wallpaper to stop the blue colour shining through the paper. It took a good two coats to get rid of the blue and I quickly rolled a third layer over just in case- I was convinced I could still see blue! Then the wallpapering began, now this is the first time I’ve ever wallpapered so don't judge too harshly.

We kept the existing tiles and sanitary ware and as much as I would have loved to rip them out and start again there was nothing wrong with them they just aren't as modern as I would choose plus it saved us a heap of money keeping them until we can properly do the bathroom.

And here is the final reveal!

The tropical bird hook is from Next and comes in a pack of 2- I'm yet to get the second one on the wall. The wire baskets are from B&Q and come in a set of 2- one small and one slightly larger and the aloe vera is from Tesco.

So confession time... I painted the bath panel green and hated it!! I primed the wood with Valspar primer first and 2 coats of green later I realised I wanted it to be white. So another layer of primer and 2 coats of satin wood and metal paint and voila! I picked up this little tropical leaf print hand towel from Next.

You may have seen on my Instastories I won a voucher from Amara through another blogger's- Sarah Akwisombe- competition and I chose this gold mirror from the Umbra range which I absolutely love!

I cut an Ikea picture ledge down to fit the end of the bath to allow some storage and added these 3 cacti also from Ikea and a Hello sign from Sophia Jacobs Home.

A few more accessories include the So Soy Lemongrass, lime and ginger root candle which I've written about before and makes the bathroom smell like a spa, a gold pineapple from Urban Outfitters and a glass jar for storage.

The lampshade is from Habitat and I got it in the sale half price for £15.00, with leftover wallpaper I wrapped the inside of the shade to add a bit of interest inspired by Love Frankie's amazing shades.

Possibly my favourite part of the bathroom is this gold monkey wall plaque from Next, its super 3-D and there he is just swinging through the banana leaves!

Another sneaky bit of storage above the door with this Ikea shelf. And that's it, hope you all approve of my mini makeover! I know a lot of people especially media and other bloggers are saying the tropical trend is over but I've always been a fan and try not to follow the trends, my motto is if you like something then go for it!
