SHED's top picks at the RDS National Crafts and Design Fair 2016

SHED's top picks at the RDS National Crafts and Design Fair 2016

So today I took a trip to Dublin to pay a visit to the National Craft and Design Fair. There are some very talented people about so I though I'd share my top picks and favourite of the homeware/ accessories stands. (There was also some amazing jewellery including Scribble and Stone, Chupi and Bláithín Ennis). It was the last day of the fair but that hadn't stopped the crowds building as the day went on, it was packed so well done to all involved!

First up is  Martin Gallagher Furniture who creates bespoke furniture. His work is top quality, contemporary and beautifully finished. Check out the birch ply shelves which can be used as floating bedside tables. The main graphic also shows another piece of his work.

Next up is Adam Frew, who hails from Portstewart and who creates delicate ceramics finished in his signature pale blue glaze, contemporary yet practical they would sit well in any home. Love the touch of orange he's used on some pieces to compliment the pale blue.

Representing the textile industry is Deborah Toner, who's work involves architectural embroidery on locally grown Irish linen. My favourite piece is the dome of Belfast City Hall.  All her work was beautifully showcased in bespoke shelving showing her attention to detail.

For delicate prints I chose Fawn Prints.  Her designs are simple, graphic and colourful she has range of lino prints, delicate  mugs featuring cute animal illustrations and printed washbags.

Insects seem to be big this year with both Red Earth Design and Danu ceramics both featuring beetles. The top 2 pictures are Red Earth Design with delicately transferred images onto porcelain and the bottom 2 are Danu Ceramics where the dishes are washed with colour and finished with 22 carat gold, they also had a great ceramic hanging planter.

For quirky home accessories I choose Karoart for her eccentric little ceramic pieces like the plate range with faces on them, little bird feet and lovely dark grey plantpots.

There were so many other great makers there including Copper Fish Studio- amazing lighting, Cooper Handcrafted Furniture-lovely hand crafted contemporary furniture, Jando Design- if you want a print of Dublin's landmarks this is the place to go.

So there you have it, a very quick roundup of a massive 5 day event!
